The most exciting time of the year!

EmptyChairsSACO – Five days. It all starts again next week and I’m excited about the prospects for the new school year. Now, the hallways are quiet, the custodial staff is busy finishing last-minute projects and my colleagues are working to make sure their teaching spaces are ready for students.

Yes, it happens every year, but the good news is that I’m excited again to see my students, to share stories and ideas with them, and to learn. I don’t mean to sound like I’m in the middle of a Jimmy Stewart movie, but something meaningful happens every day in the classrooms, hallways, performance spaces, and athletic fields of our school. I know it’s coming, but now I need to focus on getting ready. Over the next few weeks, I hope to document the life of a high school English teacher.

I’ve told these stories for some time, and now that I’m no longer a graduate student, I think it’s time I wrote them down.
